Joshua R. Cohen grew up in San Antonio, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin both as an undergraduate and for law school. He received his bachelor’s degree with highest honors in 1981 and was named Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Cohen received his law degree with honors in 1984 and became a member of the Ohio bar that same year.

Mr. Cohen has devoted his entire professional career to commercial litigation, representing clients in court and arbitration, at both the trial and appellate level. His experience includes serving as lead counsel for the City of Cleveland in a lawsuit against various prominent investment banking firms in connection with the subprime foreclosure crisis. Mr. Cohen also is currently prosecuting litigation on behalf of a receiver appointed at the behest of the Ohio Division of Securities to recoup funds for victims of a multi-million-dollar Ponzi scheme.

Mr. Cohen served as lead counsel in a class action brought on behalf of season ticket holders against the former Cleveland Browns upon relocation of the franchise to Baltimore — a landmark case in both sports and consumer law — and represented policyholders of a large mutual insurance company in litigation stemming from its failed merger with a for-profit corporation. He has extensive experience in securities arbitrations and complex commercial disputes, including matters involving real estate, contracts, trusts, corporate governance and consumer fraud.

Mr. Cohen has argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Sixth Circuits. He is a founding member of Cohen Rosenthal & Kramer LLP.
